The Federation of the European Bars
La Fédération des Barreaux d’Europe
FBE was established as a successor of the Conference of Major Bar Councils of Europe launched in 1986. Unlike other international lawyers’ organisations, members of the Federation may also be regional and local bar associations.
FBE focuses on facilitating contacts between bar councils at the local level. The organisation holds its congresses three times a year: in February, always in Barcelona, during which the Presidency establishes an action plan for the coming year, in May, when elections to the bodies of the Federation are held, and in October, when traditionally part of the conference is dedicated to the issues of legal education in Europe. The Federation has five permanent committees (on access to justice, professional ethics, human rights, vocational training and bar councils of the Mediterranean Region) as well as three temporary committees (on Eastern Bar Councils, the organisation and activities of bar councils and on the future of legal profession).
